About the Artist

Born and raised on a small cattle ranch in Southern Utah, Charlie Jo's formative years were defined by the expansive landscapes of the West and a life largely lived outdoors. This early immersion in the rhythms of the land-coupled with a lifelong preference for the company of animals over the complexities of modern social structures-developed into a deep, observational kinship with the natural world.

Now based in the Black Hills of South Dakota, Charlie Jo continues to seek the quiet spaces where the ghosts of the wild still linger. Working primarily in charcoal, her art serves as a bridge between the artist and the subjects she understands best: the wildlife and the working livestock of the American West.

For Charlie Jo, the creative process is not a social statement, but a solitary act of translation. Each piece is a reflection of time spent wandering the hills and a lifelong dedication to capturing the honest, tactile essence of subjects that require no words to be understood.

Side note:

Several of my original pieces are still available for serious collectors. Please send a private message if interested. I am not taking commissions at this time.
